Simpson Breaks Logjam at Top of Greenbrier Classic; Tiger & Phil Miss Cut

While first-round leader Vijay Singh faltered, several players - led by 2012 U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson - filled the void at the top of the leaderboard on Friday of the weather-delayed Greenbrier Classic. The $6.1 million PGA Tour event is being held at the Old White TPC at Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.V.

The second round was halted at 3:35 p.m. (ET) due to dangerous weather in the area; play re-started at 6:00.

Simpson birdied the par-3 18th hole for a 4-under 66 to take the outright lead at 9-under 131. Sharing second at 132 are Jonathan Byrd, who followed up his opening 64 with a 68, with 27-year-old Tour rookie Charlie Beljan, who had an 8-under 62, Jeff Maggert (68) and Jerry Kelly (66).

"Today was the best day of my career," said Beljan, who had nine birdies and a bogey after shooting even-par Thursday. "It was wonderful from the first hole, making birdie, to the last hole I made bogey, but it still didn't matter."

Defending champion Scott Stallings is at 137 after rounds of 67 and 70. Singh went from a 63 Thursday to a 74 Friday and is tied with Stallings.

The cut was set at 1-under 139. The big news of the tournament is that two of marquee players, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, won't play on the weekend. Mickelson shot two straight 1-over 71s, while Woods had a 71 and 69 to miss the cut by a stroke.
