Stallings Pulls Off Victory in Farmers Insurance Open

Scott Stallings overcame a three-stroke deficit entering the final round to win the Farmers Insurance Open. The $6.1 million PGA Tour event took place at the tough South course at Torrey Pines near San Diego.

Stallings, a 28-year-old who lives in Knoxville, recorded seven birdies and three bogeys to finish at 9-under 279 for his third Tour victory. His previous wins came in the 2011 Greenbrier Classic and True South Classic two years ago.

"I drove it very poorly (but) I hit some good ones coming down the stretch," Stallings said during a greenside interview. "(The win) is pretty cool. It's nice to hold up coming down the stretch."

His latest title was worth $1.098 million, 500 FedEx Cup and an invite to the 2014 Masters.

South Korea's K.J. Choi soared up the leaderboard with Sunday's low round, a 6-under 66, for a share of second at 280 with Canada's Graham DeLaet (68), Aussies Jason Day (68) and Marc Leishman (71) and Pat Perez (70).

Another stroke back at 7-under 281 were Charley Hoffman (67), Japan's Ryo Ishikawa (70) and Will MacKenzie (70).

Third-round leader Gary Woodland stumbled on Sunday to a 2-over 74 to end up tied for 10th at 282 with Trevor Immelman (69), Seung-Yul Noh (69), Russell Knox (70), Justin Thomas (69) and Brad Fritsch (71).

Jordan Spieth, who vaulted to the 36-hole lead after a 9-under 63 on the North course Friday, carded two 75s on the South course over the weekend to drop into a tie for 19th at 4-under 284.
