Three Tied for Top in the Shaw Charity Classic


Bob Tway, Joe Durant and Joe Daley now share the 36-hole lead in the Shaw Charity Classic. The $2.25 million, 54-hole Champions Tour event got underway Friday at Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club in Calgary, Canada.

The 56-year-old Tway carded seven birdies, an eagle on the par-5 11th hole and two bogeys for a 7-under 63 at the par-70 course. The Oklahoma native stands at 10-under 130, the same score as Durant and Daley, who each posted 66s.

Just one stroke back heading into Sunday's final round are Gary Hallberg (65), Mark McNulty (66) and David Frost (68).

Tied for seventh at 132 are Bernhard Langer (65), Doug Garwood (66), Woody Austin (67) and Tom Pernice Jr. (70).

Pernice opened with a 62, a score matched by Bart Bryant, who had a 71 Saturday to drop to 7-under 133 with Mark Mouland (64), Billy Andrade (66), Paul Goydos (66) and Steve Lowery (67).

Defending champion Rocco Mediate followed up his opening 68 with a 66 to rise up into a tie for 16th at 6-under with Fred Couples (66), Wes Short Jr. (65), Russ Cochran (68), Mark O'Meara (68), Craig Stadler (69), Kevin Sutherland (68) and Steve Elkington (69).

Scott Dunlap, the winner in last week's Champions Tour event, the Boeing Classic near Seattle, shot a 70 and is now at 3-under 137.
