Tiger's Tournament at Congressional on Verge of Getting New Sponsor

According to The Associated Press, the annual fundraiser for the Tiger Woods Foundation at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., is on the verge of getting a new title sponsor.

According to the report, the PGA Tour and Quicken Loans are close to signing a new deal, with the Detroit-based company to replacing AT&T as the title sponsor of the AT&T National. AT&T is in the final year of its contract with the Tour.

AT&T will continue as the title sponsor of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on the Monterey Peninsula, and also sponsors a Champions Tour event in San Antonio. The telecom giant has also signed on to sponsor the Byron Nelson Championship, starting in 2015.

Greg McLaughlin, who announced Tuesday that he was leaving after 14 years as president and CEO of the Tiger Woods Foundation, and PGA Tour spokesman Ty Votaw have not commented on the sponsorship deal with Quicken Loans.

Currently, three golf events benefit the foundation. In addition to the Congressional tournament, the others are the Deutsche Bank Championship outside Boston, and the unofficial, limited-field World Challenge, which is moving from Sherwood Country Club in California to Isleworth, the club near Orlando, Fla., where Woods once lived.
