TPC Harding Park Pegged for Two Big Future Golf Events

According to various sources, TPC Harding Park in San Francisco will be named as the site for the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2025 Presidents Cup.

The PGA Championship is golf's fourth and final major of the year while the Presidents Cup - contested between teams from the U.S. and non-European countries - is a biennial event held in the off-years from the Ryder Cup.

Dates haven't been determined for either event at TPC Harding Park. The PGA of America, which oversees the PGA Championship, and the PGA Tour, which runs the Presidents Cup, are slated to have a joint press conference Wednesday in San Francisco.

The PGA hasn't played its championship on a municipal or state-owned course since it was held at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, N.C., in 1974. If the 2020 event comes to fruition at TPC Harding Park, it will be the second straight year the tournament takes place on a public facility as the 2019 PGA Championship is slated for Bethpage Black in New York.

The 2014 PGA will be held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, followed by Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis., in 2015; 2016 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C.; and 2018 at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis.

The 2015 site for the Presidents Cup will be in Incheon, South Korea. Locales for the other years - 2017, '19, '21 and '23 - have not been announced. Golfweek reported in its June 20 issue that the 2017 Presidents Cup will be held at Liberty National in Jersey City, N.J.
