Triplett Gets First Senior Title

Kirk Triplett, a three-time winner on the PGA Tour, fired a 6-under 66 to win the First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. The Champions Tour rookie finished at 10-under 206 in the 54-hole event for his first victory on the over-50 circuit.

Triplett had a four-stroke deficit entering the final round on the Monterey Peninsula, but five birdies, an eagle (on the par-5 second) and a lone bogey overcame 36-hole leaders Tom Kite and Brad Bryant to seal the win - worth $240,000.

Zimbabwe's Mark McNulty had a 69 to end up in solo second at 208, while another stroke back were Jay Haas (69), Bill Glasson (69) and Bryant, who closed with a disappointing 74.

Hale Irwin (69), Mark Brooks (70) and Gary Hallberg (71) shared sixth at 211, while another stroke back were Jeff Sluman (67), Peter Senior (73), Corey Pavin (72) and Kite (76).

The First Tee's Tyler Broach of Virginia made a birdie on the par-5 18th to win the juniors part of the tournament by a stroke. The college freshman-to-be and McNulty teamed to also win the pro-am at 20-under par.
