USA Up 9-2 in Curtis Cup

The Americans began the day with a 5-1 advantage over the team from Great Britain and Ireland and extended their lead to 9-2 after the Saturday's matches at St. Louis Country Club in Missouri.

Because of heavy rains later in the day, all but one of the three foursome matches in the afternoon wasn't completed.

In the morning four-ball, the USA got victories from the duo of Kyung Kim and Allison Lee (by a 4 and 2 margin), and Emma Talley and Mariah Stackhouse (2 and 1). The Americans gave up their second point of the match when Erynne Lee and Annie Park lost by a 1-up score to GB&I's Annabel Dimmock and Gemma Dryburgh.

In foursomes, the Yanks continued their hot play with 2 and 1 and 3 and 2 victories by Ashlan Ramsey and Allison Lee and Kim and Lee over Charlotte Thomas and Dryburgh and Eilidh Briggs and Gabriella Cowley, respectively.

In the third match, team USA'S Ally McDonald and Stackhouse were 1-up through 15 over GB&I's Stephanie Meadow and Georgia Hall.

Sunday will have eight singles matches between the two teams. The USA needs only one and a half points to regain the Cup from GB&I, which won 10½ and 9½ two years ago at Nairn in Scotland after rallying with some big singles victories on Sunday.

GB&I Captain Tegwen Matthews said that might not be as easy this year on foreign soil. “I would think that's probably an advantage as you would expect a home team to have, like we did at Nairn (Scotland, site of the 2012 Curtis Cup Match) in the same way,” said Matthews. “We kind of knew every blade of grass at Nairn.”
