USGA to Host Golf Pioneer Lee Elder

The United States Golf Association will host a speaking engagement with former PGA Tour professional and golf pioneer Lee Elder on Wednesday, October 3.

In addition to his 12 professional victories and 14 U.S. Open appearances, Elder is celebrated for his courage in overcoming adversity and prejudice. As the first African American to play in the Masters Tournament (1975) and the Ryder Cup (1979), Elder's rise through the professional ranks is a chronicle of perseverance and dedication.

Elder will address his efforts to fight discrimination and make the game more inclusive both during and after his playing career with a presentation to metropolitan-area youth groups. Local high school golf teams have been invited to attend, as well as members of the local chapters of the First Tee and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

The event, an opportunity to interact with and share the stories of adversity and perseverance of a golf barrier breaker, will take place at the USGA Museum, located at 77 Liberty Corner Road in Far Hills, N.J.
