Walker & Spieth Share Pebble Beach Pro-Am Lead

After a three-hour bad-weather delay snarled the opening round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, it wasn't quite as bad Friday on California's Monterey Peninsula.

A light steady rain and blustery winds characterized the second round of the $6.6 million PGA Tour event which, because of Thursday's slow start, required 40 players to complete their first rounds at the three courses used for the tournament - the par-72 Pebble Beach Golf Links, par-71 Monterey Peninsula Country Club and par-72 Spyglass Hill - Friday morning.

At the end of the day, Jimmy Walker and Jordan Spieth shared the halfway lead at 9-uuder par. Walker, who has a pair of wins in the reconfigured 2013-14 season and leads the Tour in earnings at $2.4 million as well as the FedEx Cup points' standings, carded a 3-under 69 at Spyglass, while Spieth had a 67 at Monterey Peninsula.

Walker, the winner in October's Frys.com Open and the Sony Open in January, had three birdies Friday. The 33-year-old Oklahoman hasn't carded a bogey in 36 holes. The 20-year-old Spieth, the Tour's reigning Rookie of the Year, posted six birdies and two bogeys.

One stroke off the pace is Hunter Mahan, who carded a 68 at Spyglass Hill. First-round leader, Tour rookie Andrew Loupe, followed up his opening 63 at Monterey Peninsula with a 1-over 73 at Pebble Beach. He had three bogeys - on the first, 17th and 18th holes - and a pair of birdies to drop to fourth place at 7-under.

At 6-under is Richard H. Lee, who shot even-par at Pebble Beach, while at 5-under are 11 players. They include Daniel Summerhays, Robert Garrigus, Ryan Palmer, Dudley Hart, Jim Renner, Scott Gardiner, Steve Bowditch, Dicky Pride, Blake Adams, Brendon Todd and Tom Wilkinson.

Four-time AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am winner Phil Mickelson shot a 73 at Pebble Beach after starting with a 66 at Monterey Peninsula and is another big group at 4-under. Defending champion Brandt Snedeker has shot a pair of 72s at Spyglass Hill and Monterey Peninsula, respectively.

When this story was posted, it looks like all the players will complete their second rounds.

Graeme McDowell, who won the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, opened with a 71 at Spyglass Hill, and followed that up with a 71 at Monterey Peninsula.

The weather is forecast to worsen over the weekend as there's an 80 percent chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday. A quarter- to half-inch of rain is expected each day.
