Wiebe Continues to Lead in Hawaii


Mark Wiebe followed up his opening 8-under 64 with a 69 to maintain the lead in the Pacific Links Hawaii Championship. The $1.8 million Champions Tour event began Friday at Kapolei Golf Club.

Wiebe, a four-time winner on the over-50 circuit whose most recent title came in July in the Senior Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, carded three birdies on the front nine to make the turn at 3-under 33. On the home half, he offset two birdies with a pair of bogeys to reach 11-under 133, two shots ahead of Vijay Singh, who posted a 66.

Singh, who turned 50 in February and is making his Champions Tour debut, posted four birdies on the front nine and two more on the back to rise up the leaderboard into second.

Tied for third at 136 are Corey Pavin (68) and Brian Henninger (69), while another stroke back are Sandy Lyle (67) and John Cook (71).

Bernhard Langer had a 69 to take a share of seventh at 138 with David Frost (69), Gene Sauers (69), Bart Bryant (70) and Mark Calcavecchia (72). After a 70, Kirk Triplett is in solo 12th at 139.

Other scores included a 75 by Charles Schwab Cup points' leader Kenny Perry, who's tied for 58th at 3-over 147 in the 54-hole tournament, and a 75 by defending champion Willie Wood, who's now T35 at even-par 144.

Esteban Toledo, winner of the previous event on the over-50 circuit - the Montreal Championship two weeks ago, shares 17th at 3-under 141.
