2014 Hogan Award Semifinalists Named


Colonial Country Club, Friends of Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America announced the 10 semifinalists for the 2014 Ben Hogan Award on Wednesday.

The semifinalists include Bryson Dechambeau of SMU, Greg Eason of UCF, Joey Garber of Georgia, Brandon Hagy of California, Washington's Cheng-Tsung Pan, Stanford's Patrick Rodgers Ollie Schniederjans of Georgia Tech, Robby Shelton of Alabama, Cameron WIlson of Stanford and Bobby Wyatt of Alabama.

Rodgers and Pan have been semifinalists each of the past three years, while Wyatt made the 10-man list for the second consecutive year.

Recent winners of the award given to the year's top collegiate player include Rickie Fowler (2008), Kyle Stanley (2009), Nick Taylor (2010), Peter Uihlein (2011), Patrick Cantlay (2012) and Chris Williams (2013).

Eight of the top nine players in Golfstat's individual rankings were named semifinalists. Dechambeau (No. 26) and Pan (No. 42) are the lowest-ranked players to advance, although Pan leads the UW with a 69.81 scoring average, ranking third in the nation.

Among the notable players who weren't named for this year's honor: Alabama senior Cory Whitsett, a U.S. Walker Cup member; Tennessee sophomore Oliver Goss, a U.S. Amateur finalist who made the cut in last week's Masters; and Oklahoma State sophomore Jordan Niebrugge, who won last year's U.S. Amateur Public Links and Western Amateur, and played on the 2013 U.S. Walker Cup team.
