Another Rain Delay Plagues AT&T Byron Nelson

The field in the $7.1 million AT&T Byron Nelson finally completed the second round on Saturday. The recent monsoon-like conditions that have generated massive flooding in Texas have raised havoc in Irving as 4.5 inches of rain fell Thursday night and another inch further saturated the TPC Four Seasons Resort course Saturday morning.

Tour officials had hoped to resume early Saturday morning at the venue in Irving, but another three-hour storm delay prevented that, causing another blip in the tournament schedule.

Particularly boggy was the par-4 14th, which Tour officials converted into a short par-3, reducing the course's overall par on Friday to 69. On Friday the 14th played 103 yards and on Saturday 108.

Thirty-three players needed to finish up their second rounds Saturday, with Round 3 getting underway after that with players going off both the first and 10th tees in threesomes. For the second straight day, players could use preferred lies in closely mown areas.

Steven Bowditch, an Australian now living in Texas, opened with a 62 and was atop the leaderboard as this story was posted.

The 36-hole cut was set at 1-under. Among those who didn't advance was defending champion Brendon Todd, who shot rounds of 72 and 68.

The forecast on Sunday calls for clear skies and temperatures near 80 degrees. But because of the delays on Friday and Saturday, it will be a long Sunday for the players remaining in the AT&T Byron Nelson.
