Bad Weather Wipes Out Masters' Par 3 Contest

Rain and lightning swept through the Augusta area, causing a cancellation of the Par 3 Contest Wednesday on the eve of the 2012 Masters Tournament.

Padraig Harrington and Jonathan Byrd, who both finished their nine-hole rounds before the bad weather came through, were named the winners after recording 5-under par scores.

Former Masters champion Jerry Pate was at 4-under with four holes left and Webb Simpson was at the same number with a hole to go. Adam Scott also finished at 4-under.

No player in the history of the Masters has ever won the Par 3 Contest and the tournament proper in the same year.

The cancellation was only the second time since the Par 3 began in 1960 that there were dual winners named due to suspension of the casual event, which has many players bringing along their children to serve as "caddies."
