Bradley Continues to Set Pace at Byron Nelson
Keegan Bradley will be going for a wire-to-wire victory in the HP Byron Nelson Championship. The $6.7 million PGA Tour event started Thursday at TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas.
After opening with a course- and tournament-record-setting 10-under-par 60 and a 69 Friday, the 27-year-old from Vermont posted a 68 Saturday to reach 13-under 197, one stroke ahead of South Korea's Sang-Moon Bae (66) and two in front of Tom Gillis (67).
Bradley carded five birdies and three bogeys - including his third straight dropped shot on the par-4 18th - for his 2-under third round. "I've played really well the past three days and am really happy with where I'm sitting," Bradley said at greenside.
Three strokes back in solo fourth at 10-under 200 is Scott Piercy - who matched Bae and Jason Day for Saturday's low round, a 4-under 66. Sharing fifth at 202 are Gary Woodland (68), Harris English (68), John Huh (69) and South African Charl Schwartzel (69).
Huh, a 22-year-old Dallas resident, had the shot of the day when he holed out from 162 yards on the par-4 14th for an eagle.
Alone in ninth at 203 is Australian Nathan Green (68), and sharing 10th at 204 are D.A. Points (67), two Germans - Marcel Siem (68) and Martin Kaymer (69), Canada's Graham DeLaet (70), Argentina's Angel Cabrera (70) and American Ted Potter, Jr. (70).
After opening with two straight 70s, defending champion Jason Dufner carded a 67 Saturday to reach 3-under 207.
Scoring conditions are expected to be a bit more difficult in Sunday's final round as winds in the 20-mph range are forecast.
Peggy Nelson, the widow of the Byron Nelson, who died in 2006, told PGATour.com that Ken Venturi, the CBS golf analyst who passed away Friday, had a longtime relationship with the tournament namesake. "Just a precious, precious friendship," Peggy said. "I think if Byron could have, he would've adopted Kenny. He was a great guy."
