Cabrera Closes with 64 to Take Greenbrier Classic


Argentina's Angel Cabrera fired a 6-under 64 to win the Greenbrier Classic on Sunday. The $6.5 million PGA Tour event was held on the White Course at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

The 44-year-old Cabrera, whose only previous two wins in America were majors in the 2007 U.S. Open and the Masters two years later, carded three birdies on the front nine and tacked on two more on two more birdies on Nos. 11 and 12 before an eagle on the par-4 13th.

But two bogeys on the 14th and 15th holes made things interesting as George McNeill enjoyed the clubhouse lead after posting a 9-under 61. McNeill had a wonderful final round, one that included seven birdies and a hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth.

But Cabrera birdied the par-5 17th and closed with a par on the par-3 last to end up at 16-under 264, two shots ahead of McNeill.

Cabrera's eagle came when he holed out from 176 yards 8-iron on Old White's hardest hole. McNeill aced the 219-yard eighth hole with a 4-iron.

Bud Cauley also got a hole-in-one Sunday, finding the cup on the 176-yard 18th with a 7-iron.

Cauley recorded a 64, good for a fourth-place tie behind Webb Simpson - who had a 63 - with Keegan Bradley (66), Brendon Todd (66), Chris Stroud (69), Cameron Tringale (69), Will Wilcox (69) and 54-hole leader Billy Hurley III, who closed with a 73.

Cabrera's victory was worth $1.17 million and 500 FedEx Cup points.
