Coceres & Andrade Set Pace at Principal Charity Classic


Argentina's Jose Coceres and American Billy Andrade each posted 6-under 66s to take the opening-round lead at the Principal Charity Classic. The $1.75 million Champions Tour event began Friday at Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Iowa.

Coceres, a 51-year-old with two PGA tour victories and a pair of titles on the European Tour, posted six birdies while Andrade, a four-time PGA Tour winner who also won the Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf with partner Joe Durant in April, had seven birdies and a bogey.

The due enjoys a one-stroke lead over Americans Jeff Coston, Brian Henninger, Michael Allen, Mark Calcavecchia, Tom Pernice Jr. and Paul Goydos, and Australia's Grant Waite. Pernice is the defending champion.

Durant posted a 68 and shares 10th with fellow American Jeff Sluman, Germany's Bernhard Langer, England's Roger Chapman, Sweden's Jesper Parnevik and Canada's Rod Spittle.
