Danish Touring Pro Faces Big Tax Fine

Denmark's Soren Hansen, a regular on the European Tour and occasional player on the PGA Tour, has been fined nearly $1.1 million for tax evasion in a Copenhagen City Court.

The Ryder Cup veteran was found guilty of failing to pay taxes between 2002 and 2006. He had claimed residency in Monaco, a tax haven, during that period, but the court ruled he actually lived in Denmark and avoided paying Danish taxes. It's not known whether Hansen will appeal.

The 36-year-old has represented his country five times in World Cup competitions. Hansen entered the top-50 of the World Golf Rankings in 2007, but is now ranked 53rd. He also ranks 24th on the 2010 European Tour money list with 311,311 euros.

In 2008, Hansen was a member of the European Ryder Cup Team that lost to the Americans at Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky.
