Dawson & Cook Set Pace in AT&T Championship


Marco Dawson and John Cook each recorded 7-under 65s to share the first-round lead in the AT&T Championship. The $1.95 million, 54-hole Champions Tour event got underway Friday at the ATT Canyons Course at TPC San Antonio in Texas.

The 50-year-old Dawson posted nine birdies and two bogeys, while the 57-year-old Cook, a 10-time winner on the over-50 circuit, carded five birdies and an eagle on the par-5 second hole.

Trailing by a stroke is Scott Dunlap, while two back are Australia's Peter Senior and Americans Wes Short Jr., Tom Lehman, Bart Bryant, Kirk Triplett, Jay Haas, Gary Hallberg and rookie Guy Boros.

Haas won his 17th Champions Tour title in last week's Greater Hickory Kia Classic at Rock Barn in North Carolina.

Carding 68s were Scott Hoch, Dan Forsman, Loren Roberts, David Frost, Woody Austin, Colin Montgomerie, Kenny Perry, Tom Byron and Steve Lowery. Perry is the defending champion.

Bernhard Langer, a five-time winner this year and the runaway leader in the Charles Schwab Cup, opened with a 71. Fred Couples had a 73.
