Europe Dominates Season-End World Golf Rankings


Though they've pretty much been determined for a few weeks, the official World Golf Rankings for 2010 are out.

The only significant change in the top 10 is that U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell moved up into sixth place, dropping Steve Stricker to seventh.

In was a banner year for Europe, which boasts six of the top-10 players in the rankings, with the other four from the U.S. As expected, Lee Westwood retained the top position while the player he unseated, Tiger Woods, is No. 2.

The European's dominance was capped this fall by a victory in the Ryder Cup match at Celtic Manor in Wales. "It was a fantastic year for European golf," said European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie. "We've never been in ruder health."

The Englishman's lead is relatively significant as Westwood has a points' average of 9.24 and 424.95 total points, compared to Woods's 7.88 and 315.25, respectively.
