Europe Takes Palmer Cup
Facing a 10-6 deficit entering the final day, the European Team won seven of the eight of singles matches - with the other halved - to roll to a 13½ to 10½ victory over their American counterparts.
The annual event, which pits collegiate teams from the U.S. against their counterparts from Europe, was held at Royal County Down Golf Club in Northern Ireland.
The defeat stunned the Yanks - which ended their two-year winning streak (they still lead the series 8-7-1) - and thrilled the host team. "After the first day we were very disappointed, of course, and we had a long meeting," said Europe coach Rickard Lindberg.
"I told them that we could still win this because there were a lot of points out there. I just wanted them to all believe that they could do it and they would have to go deep down within themselves to find something.
"(Saturday) was good. We were pretty much in the same place we were today. We didn't have the lucky bounces like we did today but today was unreal. I couldn't be prouder of the guys or their performance. They really took on the situation and they really gave it a shot and came through on top. It was just unreal."
See below for the results of each match. The only score notched by the Americans was a half-point in the match involving USA's Corbin Mills and Europe's Thomas Pieters.
