Grace Extends Lead in Dunhill Championship


Branden Grace followed up his record-setting 60 with a 67 to stretch his lead in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland. After his 12-under effort at Kingsbarns - the South African went 5-under par at the Old Course at St. Andrews. Grace's third round will be at Carnoustie.

Grace carded six birdies and a bogey Friday to reach 17-under 127, five strokes ahead of Swede Joel Sjoholm (67 at St. Andrews) and Denmark's Throbjorn Olesen (69 at Carnoustie).

"I think it helped I was playing a different course," said Grace of his second round. "If I had played Kingsbarns again after shooting the lights out yesterday I might have pushed it too much."

Grace is using the momentum gained after his victory last week in the Sunshine Tour's Vodacom Origins of Golf. "A win is a win. It gives you confidence and puts a fire in you. I'm still just running with it."

Alone in fourth at 133 is South African Anton Haig (68 at Carnoustie), while another stroke back are three players who all played Carnoustie Friday: Graeme Storm (66), Magnus Carlsson (68) and Fabrizio Zanotti (66).

After opening with a record-setting 62 at the Old Course, France's Victor Dubuisson went 11 strokes higher at Carnoustie to fall into a tie for eighth at 135 with Fredrik Hed Andersson (71 Carnoustie), Paul Waring (66 St. Andrews) and Danny Willett (69 Carnoustie).

Martin Kaymer, who scored the winning point for the European team in last week's Ryder Cup in Chicago, has posted rounds of 70 and 71 and is in 56th place.
