Huh Gets First PGA Tour Victory in Mexico


John Huh survived a marathon sudden-death playoff against Australia's Robert Allenby to win his first title on the PGA Tour.

Huh, a 21-year-old who was born in New York City and now resides in Los Angeles, had to endure eight extra holes before making a birdie to win the Mayacoba Golf Classic. The $3.7 million event began Thursday at the El Cameleon course in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

The two players finished tied in regulation at 13-under 271 on the par-71 course. Huh closed with an 8-under 63 for the low round of the tournament, and Allenby, a 40-year-old from Melbourne with four PGA Tour titles, had a 65 that included a double-bogey on the 72nd hole, which he said he "played like a rookie."

Alternating between the par-4 18th and par-3 10th holes, the two matched pars through the first seven extra holes. But on the final playoff hole, the 18th, Huh carded a birdie for his maiden win.

The victory was worth $666,000 and 250 FedEx Cup points for Huh, a PGA Tour rookie.

Matt Every and Colt Knost both had 66s to share third at 273, while tied for fifth at 274 were Spain's Alejandro Canizares (66) and Americans Dicky Pride (66), Chris Stroud (71) and Daniel Summerhays.

Summerhays, a 28-year-old from Utah, entered the final round with a two-stroke lead over Stroud but closed with a 2-over 73.
