Kerr Shoots 66 to Vault into Lead at Kingsmill Championship


Cristie Kerr will be going for her third title Sunday in the Kingsmill Championship. The 35-year-old, 14-time LPGA winner carded a 5-under 66 to go up by two strokes in the $1.3 million tournament being held on the River Course at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.

After a bogey on the par-3 second hole, Kerr - whose previous wins in the tournament came in 2005 and '09 - got warmed up, posting six birdies the rest of the way to reach 10-under 203, two shots ahead of Norway's Suzann Pettersen (68) and American Stacy Lewis (69).

Three strokes back of Kerr is Angela Stanford (69), while four behind is South Korea's Ilhee Lee, who also shot a 69. Lizette Salas fired Saturday's low round a 6-under 65, to grab a share of sixth at 208 with the 36-hole leader, Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn, who posted a 2-over 73 Saturday.

After opening with the low round of the tournament, a 7-under 64, the 17-year-old Jutanugarn followed up with a 71 Friday but had a difficult third round, posting four birdies and six bogeys.

Sharing eighth at 209 are No. 1-ranked Inbee Park (69) and American Katie Burnett (71). Seven behind Kerr heading into the final round are Mo Martin (70) and Germany's Sandra Gal (73).

Starting Saturday only three strokes out of the lead, LPGA Hall of Fame member Juli Inkster fell down the leaderboard into a tie for 27th at even-par 213 after a 75.

Defending champion Jiyai Shin, who beat Paula Creamer on the ninth sudden-death playoff hole last year, also had a tough outing with a 75 and is at 4-over 217. Creamer had a 74 and is among the players tied with Inkster at 213.
