Land of the Maharajahs Developing Posh Golf Community


There has been a lot of talk about a golf revolution in ancient India. Visitors to the nation have come away with reports of mega-golf projects sprouting up all over the sub-continent, a situation that augurs well for the growth of the game in India.

Now golf communities are also beginning to take root in the land of maharajahs. Leading the thrust to develop golf communities is Skytop Builders, a developer and builder in South India. Skytop is currently building the largest and first township venture in the city of Mysore, South India. The first 18-hole course, called Skytop Golf Village, will serve as the centerpiece of a 602-acre development on the Mysore-Mangalore Highway in Ilwala Mysore.

The course has been designed by Swan Golf Designs, an English firm headed by architect Howard Swan. The course will occupy over 145 acres. The layout will be surrounded by a community with villas, retirement homes, resort, an international school, sports facilities, apartments and a clubhouse.

The master plan for the mixed developments is being handled by M/s Arch Group Consultants, a Dubai firm. Jeev Milkha Singh, Asia's top golfer and India's favorite son, will be the brand ambassador of Skytop Golf Village.
