Langer Takes another Champions Tour Title; Sutherland Shoots 74

Bernhard Langer continues his domination of the Champions Tour. The 56-year-old German closed with a bogey-free 66 to win the Dick's Sporting Goods Open at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, N.Y.

Langer finished at 16-under 200 in the 54-hole event, one stroke better than Woody Austin (65) and Mark O'Meara (66).

The victory was the 23rd for Langer on the over-50 circuit, and his fifth this year - including two majors. "It doesn't happen very often you go through a tournament without a bogey," Langer said.

With daughter Christina serving as his caddie, Langer parred the final four holes for the ultimate margin. "I knew I was close," Langer said. "I just tried to keep my head down and make quality shots. When I looked at 16, I saw I was one up on someone who had already finished the round and figured I would be okay if I just parred out."

Marco Dawson (66), Olin Browne (69) and Steve Lowery (72) shared fourth at 13-under, while Dick Mast (69), Billy Andrade (69), John Riegger (70), John Cook (72) and Kevin Sutherland tied for seventh at 12-under.

Sutherland, who set a new Champions Tour record Saturday by becoming first player to shoot a 59, went 15 strokes higher Sunday en route to a 74. After a scintillating round in which he recorded 11 birdies and an eagle, the 50-year-old Californian had five bogeys and only three birdies to lose his one-stroke lead entering Sunday and drop down the leaderboard.

"So, I made some dumb bogeys," Sutherland said. "Just got myself behind early. I was surprised I didn't play better today. A lot of energy was expended (Saturday) and I think I had a hard time just getting into the round."
