Lehman Up by Three at Weather-Suspended Encompass Championship


Tom Lehman followed up his opening 7-under 65 with a 66 to take a three-stroke lead in the Encompass Championship. The $1.8 million, 54-hole Champions Tour event began Friday at North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Ill.

Over two rounds the 55-year-old Lehman, a seven-time winner on the over-50 circuit whose last title came in the 2012 Charles Schwab Championship, has posted 13 birdies to reach 13-under 131, three strokes ahead of England's Roger Chapman (68) and Americans Kirk Triplett (67) and John Inman (67).

Also at 10-under is Bart Bryant, but bad weather came through the area in the afternoon to suspend the second round. Bryant was at 5-under through 16 holes before the horn sounded and players retreated to the clubhouse.

Michael Allen is at 9-under, also through 16 holes, while Colin Montgomerie is at 8-under. The 50-year-old Scotsman, who won his first Champions Tour title last month - the Senior PGA Championship - needs to finish his last two second-round holes.

Doug Garwood (71) and Argentina's Jose Coceres (69) are at 7-under, as are Steve Elkington (through 17 holes), Jeff Sluman (16 holes) and Nick Price (15).
