Lewis Continues Apace in Thailand


Though she wasn't quite as hot in the opening round when she fired a 9-under 63, Stacy Lewis maintained her lead in the Honda LPGA Thailand. The $1.5 million LPGA Tour event began Thursday at Siam Country Club's Pattaya Old Course.

The 28-year-old carded a 69 Friday to keep her lead. She's now at 12-under 132, three strokes ahead of Thai teenager Ariya Jutanugarn (66) and four in front of South Korean So Yeon Ryu (68), Scotland's Catriona Matthew (69) and Spain's Beatriz Recari (68).

"It's always hard to follow up a really good day," said Lewis, the LPGA's 2012 Player of the Year. "I thought if I could shoot 4- or 5-under that would still be a really solid day. I almost got there but it was kind of up and down - I definitely left a few out there.

"I didn't hit it as good today but I made some putts on the back nine and still have a three-shot lead, so I can't complain."

South Korean Se Ri Pak (68) and American Lizette Salas share sixth at 137. After opening with a 69, New Zealand teenager amateur Lydia Ko shot a 71 and is now in ninth at 140.

Two-time defending champion Yani Tseng followed up her opening 75 with a 68 to reach 1-under 143 in the no-cut tournament. She's two shots ahead of Michelle Wie (74, 71).
