NCAA Regional Winners Determined
Texas Tech, Texas, Kent State, Oregon, Stanford, Oklahoma State and Washington won their NCAA Regional tournaments and will be moving on the championship finals June 1-6 at the Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Texas Tech edged defending champion Texas A&M by a stroke in the South-Central Regional at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. The Red Raiders trailed by a shot entering the final round, but managed to overcome the second-ranked Aggies after going 13-under-par 851.
After 54 holes, Texas and Kent State finished in a tie for first at 5-under-par 835 in the East Regional at the Club at Yale in New Haven, Conn. In the Central Regional at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., Stanford maintained its 36-hole lead and beat Florida State by four strokes, finishing at 10-under 830.
After finishing sixth in the Pac-10 Championships three weeks ago, Oregon ran away from the field in the NCAA Southwest Regional at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in San Diego, finishing 10 strokes ahead of Augusta State at 6-over 870.
In the Southeast Regional at Capital City's Crabapple Course in Alpharetta, Ga., Oklahoma State finished at 841, two shots clear of Clemson.
In the West Regional at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Wash., the University of Washington rolled over the field, finishing at 20-under par 844 and beating runner-up Southern California by a whopping 29 shots. Three Huskies - Richard Lee, Chris Williams and Darren Wallace - swept the top medalist honors, while Ben Hogan Award finalist Nick Taylor ended up in 19th place.
