No Decision in Kingsmill Championship


Paula Creamer and Jiyai Shin played the 18th hole on the River Course at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va., nine times Sunday - one at the end of regulation in the 72-hole LPGA tournament and eight more during a sudden-death playoff.

But in the end, no winner was determined in the $1.3 million event as darkness descended on the course, disappointing a large gallery and forcing the two to return Monday at 9:00 a.m. (EDT) to find out who will take the title. They will re-start the playoff on the 16th hole.

Creamer, who started the final round with a two-stroke edge over the South Korean, closed with an even-par 71 to end up tied with Shin (69) at 16-under 268. Creamer could have won the tournament on the 382-yard, par-4 18th hole in regulation, but missed a 5-foot par attempt that forced the playoff.

Back and forth the two went on the 18th, with each carding pars eight different times. The two considered playing the hole a ninth time in the overtime session, and returned to the tee. But once at the starting block, they decided it was too dark to continue.

"I wanted to play, but when I teed it up it was a no-go," Creamer told a Golf Channel reporter.

Both players will be seeking their first victory since 2010; Creamer's last title came that year in the U.S. Women's Open at Oakmont, while Shin's was in the Mizuno Classic.

Ending up tied for third at 270 were France's Karine Icher (65) and American Danielle Kang (69), while another stroke back were Angela Stanford (64) and Scotland's Catriona Matthew (68).
