Nordqvist Moves Further Ahead in Thailand


A 5-under 67 allowed Anna Nordqvist to quadruple her lead heading into Sunday's final round at the Honda LPGA Thailand. The $1.5 million, 72-hole event started Thursday at Siam Country Club's Pattaya Old Course.

The 26-year-old Swede posted four birdies, an eagle and a bogey to reach 11-under 205, four strokes ahead of No. 1-ranked Inbee Park, who also shot a 67, and Michelle Wie (69).

Five behind is Julieta Granada, and six back are Yani Tseng, Cristie Kerr, Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson.

Nordqvist knows there is still another round to go and some fine players in close pursuit of her as she seeks her first victory since the LPGA Tour Championship in November 2009.

"I think the great players out there, Inbee, Stacy (Lewis), they've been up there so many times, so they look pretty comfortable out there," Nordqvist said. "For me, it's a matter of keep putting myself in those positions and the win will happen eventually."

Playing in her first event of the year, Park carded birdies on the first two holes before tacking on a bogey and four straight birdies on the 10th through 13th holes. "I hit a lot of great irons shots out there today, I think I still left four birdies out there," said the South Korean.

Wie opened with a 67 before stumbling to a 73 Friday. On Saturday though, the 24-year-old Stanford grad rebounded with three birdies to stay within sight of Nordqvist.

"Couple hard pins, couple easy pins. Didn't really take advantage of the par-5s like I wanted to, but I can't really complain about it. Hopefully tomorrow I'll just have a lot more birdies," Wie said. "I really want that win, but I'm not going to put the added pressure on myself."
