Not-So-Happy Trails - Donald Trump
[Note: Here's another of my final installments on Cybergolf.]
Along with slow play, difficulty, cost, alleged excessive water/chemical use, poor use of valuable land, and myriad other hypothesized ills, along comes Donald Trump to cast another shadow on the game of golf.
As many of you know, the billionaire developer has ranted about Mexicans "bringing drugs and crime" to America and being "rapists." All his incendiary remarks come without fact or merit.
Not surprisingly, the condemnation of such arrogant short-sightedness has been universal, and TV networks/sponsors of Trump-backed events have pulled out in protest.
The backlash has now reached the nether regions. On a recent Internet search I learned that one Mexican immigrant, artist Fernando Sosa, is selling Donald Trump butt plugs.
Meanwhile, Trump is a candidate for President of the United States.
Damn, what a country we live in: A lowest common denominator hype master seeking to become the most powerful person in the world. And who's leading the Republican polls!
The problem for me - beyond the obvious - is that The Donald has his nefarious claws imbedded deeply into golf. Because of his anti-Mexican vitriol a couple of pro tours have yanked events from his facilities in a sort of PC response to their guilt by association. Big deal.
What's especially damning about Trump and his involvement in golf is that he personifies long-held stereotypes. How moronically ironic is this since he hasn't backed off from his belittling rhetoric of Hispanics, illustrating for all the naysayers that the people who spout this stuff are the rich, white guys who play golf and can afford the exorbitant green fees at Trump facilities!
Do you rich, white golfers want to be part of that association? If not, don't vote for Donald Trump.
I also wonder how many hundreds of Mexicans on his greens and maintenance crews have helped make his courses "world-class" as he so nauseatingly blabs.
On a planet awash in Islamic militants enslaving and actually raping thousands of pre-teen girls, and sectarian radicals worldwide going on unchecked genocidal sprees, here's a billionaire mirroring the worst, most callous aspects of racism right here at home in the good old U.S. of A.
Donald Trump is a lousy candidate for president, especially in an America that sits mid-stream in a combustible world as ethnically-divided as ours.
I don't give a hoot what The Donald's golf handicap is.
All I know is that in an American citizen's course he'd be a 30+.
