'Other' Woods Wins Title

Though Tiger Woods hasn't seen his name atop the leaderboard at the conclusion of a golf tournament for awhile, a relative of his has.

Woods's niece Cheyenne Woods won the ACC women's individual title Sunday, finishing with a career-best 5-under-par 208 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. For the 20-year-old junior at Wake Forest it was her first ACC title but the third straight won by a Demon Deacons' player; she joins Natalie Sheary who won in 2009 and Michelle Shin last year.

Cheyenne Woods finished seven shots ahead of North Carolina junior Allie White. She owed her fine performance, which set a school record at the ACC Championships, to confidence.

"Today, I really felt confident all day and knew I could hit the shots that I wanted to," Woods said. "That was important on this course because the greens are so slick that you have to land the ball in the right spots."

A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Cheyenne Woods is the daughter of Tiger Woods's half-brother, Earl Woods Jr. Her famous uncle sent congratulations to her on Twitter. "My niece, Cheyenne, just won the ACC golf title by 7 shots! That's awesome, I'm so proud of her," Tiger tweeted.

Though Cheyenne Woods took the individual title, North Carolina won the team competition followed by Duke, Virginia, Wake Forest and Florida State.

Despite coming close a few times, including in the Masters two weeks ago, Tiger Woods's last victory came in the Australian Masters in November 2009. His previous win in the U.S. was the 2009 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
