Pereira Victorious at Pacific Coast Amateur by Eight Strokes

University of Washington sophomore-to-be Corey Pereira capped off his fine play with a dominant victory in the 48th Pacific Coast Amateur at Pine Canyon Golf Club in Flagstaff, Ariz.

On Friday, Pereira fired a final-round 3-under 67 to finish at 19-under 261, eight strokes ahead of UCLA junior Lorens Chan and Matt Hansen of Los Osos, Calif.

Andrew McCain of Minneapolis and Mark Anguiano of Whittier, Calif., shared fourth at 10-under 270.

Pereira, a 19-year-old from Cameron Park, Calif., entered the fourth and final round with a five-stroke cushion thanks to a pair of 62s in the second and third rounds. He made four birdies and a bogey on Friday.

Pereira becomes the sixth Husky to win the Pacific Coast Amateur, joining Chris Williams (2011), Alex Prugh (2005), James Lepp (2003), Brock Mackenzie (2002) and Corey Prugh (2001).

In the Morse Cup team competition, the squad from the Southern California Golf Association won with a total of 11-under par.
