Player & Cabrera to Collaborate on New Course

Reigning Masters champion Angel Cabrera and Gary Player Design will collaborate on future golf course designs, with the likely first project in Latin America. No specific project was mentioned with the announcement.

The two formed a friendship when Cabrera played on Presidents Cup teams captained by Player in 2005 and '07. Since then, Player has been providing technical support and advice for the time when the Argentinean made the move into the golf course design business.

"Through my playing career, I have developed a keen understanding of quality course design techniques and feel very confident in my design vision," Cabrera said. "Having an organization with the quality of Gary Player Design as a resource was extra important to me as my design business grows. Perhaps, Gary and I may even collaborate on a project in the future."

Cabrera sees opportunities on the horizon in Latin America, especially Argentina and Brazil, for championship-caliber courses.

When new development deals are signed, Cabrera will turn to Gary Player Design for technical design services, personnel and marketing expertise. "Mr. Player and Angel have formed a relationship, which was the foundation for our business alliance," said Scott Ferrell, president of Gary Player Design. "Given that Angel is at the height of his career and has won multiple major championships, I expect we will be looking at several new projects together, particularly in South America."

The two individuals share many similarities. Both grew up underprivileged in countries not known for large golf populations, and both learned the game at a young age. After successful international careers and major championship victories, Player and Cabrera are credited with taking golf in their home countries of South Africa and Argentina to new levels of popularity.
