Radisson SAS Farnham Estate Hotel & Spa Opens in Ireland
On August 10, Farnham Estate opened to the public for the first time in three centuries. The facility in Cavan in Ireland's Lakeland region is now called the Radisson SAS Farnham Estate Hotel.
The opening of Farnham is the most comprehensive reinvention in the history of the estate. A combination of top architects, spa and interior designers were brought together at Farnham to connect elements of the original buildings – including the classical Farnham House – with sleek contemporary spaces.
Located equidistant between Dublin and Belfast, the Radisson SAS Farnham Estate Hotel offers 158 bedrooms and suites, restaurants, a lobby bar and a conference center. The refurbished Farnham House provides guest suites, public reception rooms and a cellar bar. The original rooms of the Great House were restored and guests can relax in the music room, the boardroom or a boudoir.
The 40,000-square-foot Farnham Estate Health Spa was designed by Austrian Heinz Schletterer. The Austrian architect also crafted spas at the Waldorf Astoria in New York and on the recently launched cruise ship “Queen Mary.”
The spa contains dry and wet treatment rooms; a thermal suite; relaxation rooms; lounges; an indoor/outdoor infinity pool with views overlooking Farnham's meadows and woodlands; a fully-equipped gymnasium; a salon; a pilates/yoga room; a retail outlet; and a restaurant.
Farnham Estate has approximately four miles of walking trails, which wind through ancient redwood, cedar, copper beech, Scotch pine and yew trees around the estate. In addition, there is fishing on Farnham Lake and 1,300 acres of parkland and rolling pastures. Set to debut in late 2007 is an 18-hole golf course designed by Jeff Howes. The facility will be augmented by a driving range, clubhouse and a golf academy.
