Rain Again Suspends Play in Bahamas LPGA Classic

For the second day in a row bad weather affected the Bahamas LPGA Classic. The $1.3 million event began Thursday at a storm-wracked Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island.

After first-round play was halted by heavy rains Thursday afternoon, more weather problems plagued the second day as high winds wreaked havoc on the tournament.

At day's end, South Korea's Sun Young Yoo stood atop the leaderboard at 7-under 139 following rounds of 70 and 69. American Brittany Lincicome was also at 7-under but had completed only five holes of her second round.

Lincicome was 2-under on her abbreviated outing. The 29-year-old Floridian took the events with a grain of salt. "It was kind of just like hit-it-and-laugh kind of mentality," she said of the tough conditions.

"Like we weren't taking anything really seriously. We knew it was going to be blowing really strong, and we're just thankful we didn't have to play all day. We only had to play a couple holes, which was really nice, and they say (Saturday's) going to be windy. Hopefully not as windy as today.

"But just I was going to go out today and I was either going to shoot 90 I told myself or I was going to shoot like 73. So even-par would have been great for the course. So I was just trying to take it easy out there and have a good time with it. There was nothing we could do about it. It's so ridiculous out there that it's not even normal. It's kind of just you've got to laugh about it. You can't get mad."

One stroke behind Yoo are Americans Kelly Shon (71) and Dori Carter (72), and Korean Jenny Shin (71). Inbee Park is also at 6-under but only through five holes.

After starting with a 6-under 67 on the par-73 course, first-round leader Brooke Pancake dropped to 5-under after going 1-over through seven holes in her second round before the suspension of play. No. 1-ranked Lydia Ko was 2-under after rounds of 72 and 71.

Carter's caddie echoed Lincicome about the tough sledding in the Bahamas. "(He said) I'm not going to lie, this is the worst conditions I've ever seen - wind conditions, wind," said the 28-yeaer-old Georgian. "He told me on the last hole. He didn't say it middle of the round. But we laughed about that. And, yes, it's pretty crazy, but then again we kind of know that is the Bahamas style and like Hawaii and things like that. You just expect it."

The second round will re-start Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m.
