Reed Cruises to Second Win in California Desert

Despite recording more bogeys than he did in the previous three rounds, Patrick Reed had too big a lead to let go in the final round of the Humana Challenge. With a seven-stroke lead heading into Sunday, the 23-year-old Texan closed with a 1-under 71 to finish at 28-under 260.

After opening with three straight 63s to set a new PGA Tour record in relation to par over 54 holes of 27-under 189, Reed started the final round with a seven-stroke margin over Charley Hoffman and Brendon Todd.

But, despite recording four bogeys - twice as many as he had in the first three rounds, along with five birdies, Reed was still able to notch his second career Tour win following his victory in last August's Wyndham Championship.

"It was tough out there," Reed admitted about playing with such a huge lead. "I started toward the end playing for par, just because I knew pars weren't going to hurt me. I knew someone was going to have to do something spectacular to catch me."

Finishing in second at 262 was Ryan Palmer, who carded a 63, and sharing third were Zach Johnson (62) and Justin Leonard (65) on the Palmer Private course.

"What can you do with what Patrick did this week?" Palmer said. "It's ridiculous what he did. Amazing how good he played. We'll come up a couple short, but it was a win in my game because I was playing for second today."

Reed joins Rory McIlroy and Harris English as the only current players younger than 25 with multiple Tour wins. In addition to earning $1.026 million, Reed accrued 500 FedEx Cup points to move him to No. 8 in the annual FedEx Cup race.

Ken Duke had the shot of the day. The 44-year-old aced the 110-yard, par-3 17th hole that helped him finish with a 2-under 70.
