Reed & Huh Top Wyndham Championship Leaderboard

Patrick Reed posted a 1-over 71 to fall into a share of first with John Huh through 54 holes of the Wyndham Championship. The $5.3 million PGA Tour event got underway Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

Reed, who opened with rounds of 65 and 64 to enter Saturday with a one-shot lead over Huh, opened with three bogeys and a birdie on the front nine to make the turn in 2-over 37. Following another bogey on the par-3 12th, the 23-year-old Reed reeled off three straight birdies on Nos. 14-16 before posting a bogey on the par-4 closing hole for a three-round total of 10-under 200.

Huh, the 2012 Rookie of the Year on the PGA Tour, offset a triple-bogey on the par-4 second hole with three birdies on the back nine for his even-par round.

Because of heavy rains, the third round was suspended for nearly three hours. More rain is forecast for Sunday, so Tour officials will - like Saturday - send threesomes off both the first and 10th tees.

One stroke behind the leaders are Zach Johnson (66), Bob Estes (68) and Jordan Spieth (70), while only two back are Robert Garrigus (68), Matt Every (68) and Brian Harman (69). Alone in ninth at 204 is Brendan Steele, who carded a 66.

Sharing 10th at 205 are Americans Charlie Beljan (69) and Jim Herman (72), Spain's Sergio Garcia (70), Australia's Alistair Presnell (67) and South Africa's Rory Sabbatini (72).

Garcia, who's seeking his second consecutive victory in the Wyndham Championship, was 3-over through 11 holes but rebounded with three birdies the rest of the way.

In a rare occurrence on the Tour, Charles Howell III was disqualified before the third round for using a non-conforming driver on Friday, when he shot a 68 and was tied for 10th at 6-under, five behind Reed, through 36 holes.

The infraction was caused by a toe-cap on the bottom of Howell's TaylorMade driver that came off while he was hitting balls prior to the start of the second round. Without the cover, the club was deemed to be non-conforming.

"What that little port cover coming off did was made the club non-conforming," rules official Tony Wallin told reporters. "You cannot have a hole that's uncovered into the club or going through the club."

If the cap came off during Friday's round, Howell could have continued using the driver, but would have been required to repair it prior to the start of play Saturday. Since it happened prior to the start of play, the only option was disqualification.

"The idea that the club would no longer be conforming, because of the missing toe-cap, never entered my mind," Howell told PGATour.com. "This driver will be back in play next week."
