Riegger Forges Three-Shot Edge in Boeing Classic


Champions Tour rookie John Riegger fired an 8-under 64 to take a three-stroke lead heading into the final round of the Boeing Classic. The $2 million event is taking place at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge east of Seattle.

The 50-year-old Riegger, a two-time winner on the Web.com Tour making his fifth career start on the Champions Tour, carded seven birdies, an eagle on the par-5 15th hole and a lone bogey to reach 11-under 133.

Tied for eighth at 136 are Tom Lehman (67), Bernhard Langer (68), Kirk Triplett (68) and Bobby Clampett (69).

One stroke further back is John Cook, who had a 68, while five behind Riegger are John Huston (68), Tom Pernice Jr. (68) and Duffy Waldorf (71).

Defending champion Jay Don Blake posted a 67 to rise into a tie for 10th at 139 with Gene Sauers (67), Joel Edwards (68), Rocco Mediate (69), Kenny Perry (69), Fred Couples (70) and Dick Mast (71).

Couples, a native of Seattle, had an up-and-down second round with four bogeys - and two birdies - in the first 13 holes. But the World Golf Hall of Fame member and 2013 Presidents Cup captain got back on track with three birdies in the final five holes to finish under-par for the day.

Bart Bryant, who shot a 66 to take the opening-round lead, stumbled to a 75 to fall into a tie for 20th at 3-under. Bryant won last week's Dick's Sporting Goods Open for his first title on the over-50 circuit.

On Saturday, the younger brother of Brad Bryant - a three-time winner on the Champions Tour who's at 1-over through 36 holes at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge, had three bogeys, a double on the par-4 10th and just two birdies.
