Rollins Up by Two at Sanderson Farms Championship
John Rollins carded a 4-under 68 to take a two-stroke lead heading into the final round of the Sanderson Farms Championship. The $4 million PGA Tour event is being played at the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi.
Rollins, a 39-year-old Virginian with three Tour wins, posted five birdies and a bogey to get to 14-under 202, two shots ahead of William McGirt, who matched Saturday's low round of 66.
Even though he's close to notching his first victory since the 2009 Reno-Tahoe Open, Rollins knows there's plenty of work still to do. "This isn't a place that you're going to be able to just kind of sit back and shoot even-par on and expect to coast in," he told the PGA Tour's website.
"I definitely think that I'm going to have to stay aggressive, keep doing what I'm doing and hopefully shoot a few under or so and then just see where that ends up."
Jason Bohn (66) and Lucas Glover (67) trail Rollins by three, while sharing fifth at 10-under 206 are Canada's Nick Taylor (70 and David Toms. Toms, who began Saturday tied for the lead with Rollins, couldn't get untracked Saturday.
The 47-year-old Toms, a 13-time Tour winner whose last title came in the 2011 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, stumbled with three straight bogeys on Nos. 4-6 before carding three birdies the rest of the way en route to an even-par 72.
Five behind is Robert Streb, who posted his second straight 70, while six back are Americans Kyle Reifers (67), Mark Wilson (68), Will Wilcox (68), Jonathan Byrd (66), Justin Thomas (69), John Huh (68) and Boo Weekley (70), along with Argentina's Fabian Gomez (69).
After polishing off a 74 Saturday morning due to a suspension of second-round play Friday night because of darkness, 18-hole leader Sebastian Cappelen, who opened with a 65, carded a 72 in the afternoon. The rookie from Denmark, playing this week on a sponsor's exemption, is tied for 28th at 5-under 211.
