Scores Continue to Plummet at Founders Cup


The best women golfers in the world are still showing their mastery of the game through two rounds of the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup. The $1.5 million, 72-hole tournament began Thursday at Wildfire Golf Club in Phoenix.

South Korean Jee Young Lee followed up her opening 7-under 65 with a 63 to take a one-shot edge over first-round leader, Ai Miyazato. Mayazato, a 27-year-old from Japan with nine LPGA titles, shot a 67 Friday after firing a 63 the day before.

Lee, a 27-year-old from Seoul whose only LPGA victory came in the 2005 CJ Nine Bridges Classic, stands at 15-under 129.

Coming off a four-win 2012 campaign that led to her being named the LPGA Tour's Player of the Year, Stacy Lewis continues to excel in this young season. The winner in the LPGA Tour's last event - the HSBC Women's Champions two weeks ago - vaulted up the leaderboard into third at 11-under 133 after a 65. The former Arkansas All-American posted six birdies, an eagle on the par-4 16th and a lone bogey Friday.

Sharing fourth at 135 are Americans Danielle Kang (67) and Gerina Piller (69), South Korean Amy Yang (67), and Australia's Lindsey Wright (67).

Defending champion Yani Tseng carded an even-par 72 after opening with a 72. The Taiwan player, ranked No. 1 in the world, is right on the cut line of 2-under 142, although several dozen players have yet to complete their second rounds as this story went to press.
