Scott & Webb Named Aussie Players of the Year


Australian Golf Digest has named Adam Scott its Player of the Year. The 31-year-old from Adelaide, who now resides in Queensland, edged Jason Day for the award.

Scott's year was capped by his victory in the Bridgestone International. After that triumph Steve Williams, Tiger Woods' former caddie, famously told reporters it was "the best win of his life," despite being Woods' caddie for dozens of wins - including 13 of his 14 major titles - over a 13-year period.

At the Bridgestone Invitation, his first World Golf Championship victory, Scott led wire to wire en route to a 17-under 263 finish at Firestone Country Club and a four-stroke win over Luke Donald and Rickie Fowler.

Scott also posted a final-round 67 in the Masters to share second with Day, two shots behind winner Charl Schwartzel of South Africa.

When announcing Scott as the award winner, Australian Golf Digest editor Steve Keipert said, "Wholesale changes to his putter, caddie, swing and, most importantly, mindset have sparked a career-defining season for Adam.

"If nothing else, 2011 will go down as the year Scott made his biggest steps yet en route to reaching his undeniable potential."

Karrie Webb received the women's Player of the Year award for the 13th time. The 37-year-old from Ayr, Queensland, racked up two victories in 2011. The LPGA Hall of Fame member won February's HBSC Women's Champions in Singapore and Arizona's RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup in March.
