Simpson Cruises in Vegas

Webb Simpson continued his fine play this week at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas. The 2012 U.S. Open champion closed with a 5-under 66 to win the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open by a wide margin.

Simpson carded three birdies on the front nine to make the turn in 3-under 32, then added three more - and a bogey - on the home half for a 34.

After rounds of 64, 63, 67 and 66, the 28-year-old North Carolinian finished at 24-under 260, six strokes ahead of Japan's Ryo Ishikawa (65) and Jason Bohn (66).

The victory - the career fourth for the former Wake Forest star and his first since the Open at the Olympic Club - was worth $1.08 million and 500 FedEx Cup points.

Simpson was greeted after his final putt fell by his wife, Dowd, who flew in especially for the occasion.

"The win means the world. I've been working hard and it's nice," Simpson said at greenside.

Alone in fourth at 267 was Charley Hoffman (64), while tied for fifth at 268 were Luke Guthrie (64), Troy Matteson (64), Charles Howell III (65) and Chesson Hadley (70).

Tied for ninth at 269 were Freddie Jacobson (64), Jeff Overton (70) and defending champion Ryan Moore, who closed with a 68.
