Snedeker Continues Hot Streak


Brandt Snedker is the hottest golfer on the planet. After finishing as the runner-up to Phil Mickelson in last week's Phoenix Open and tying for second behind winner Tiger Woods two weeks ago at the Farmers Insurance Open, the 32-year-old Nashville native closed with a stellar 7-under 65 to win the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

On another sunny, virtually windless day along California's Monterey Peninsula, Snedeker got rolling with an eagle on the par-5 second hole and added three more birdies - before a bogey on the par-4 ninth - at the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links to make the turn in 4-under 32. With his lead secured, Snedeker carded three more birdies and the rest pars on the home half.

Snedeker finished at 19-under 267, edging Chris Kirk (66) by two strokes and Kevin Stadler (65), Jimmy Walker (66) and James Hahn (70) by five.

The victory, worth $1.152 million, also moved Snedeker - the reigning FedEx Cup champion - higher in the world golf rankings. He entered the tournament sixth, but will be fourth when the new rankings come out on Monday. He's also amassed a sizable lead in the PGA Tour's season-long FedEx Cup points' standings.

"It's kind of crazy the past four months," Snedeker said at greenside of his recent fine play. "You just can't make this stuff up. It's too perfect."

The win, the fifth of Snedeker's career, only bolsters the momentum he's already generated in this young 2013 season, which he hopes pays off in the bigger tournaments coming up. "I have a lot of confidence . . . going into the majors," he added.

In addition to winning the AT&T, Snedeker and his partner Toby Wilt tied Michael Letzig and his amateur partner John Erickson for the pro-am title, with both teams finishing at 31-under par.

Finishing alone in sixth at 273, seven strokes behind the winner was Aussie Jason Day (67), while another stroke back in seventh were Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson (67) and American Patrick Reed (70). Patrick Cantlay (67), James Driscoll (69) and Retief Goosen (69) shared ninth at 275.

After opening with rounds of 69 and 71, defending champion Mickelson shot 73 and 72 over the weekend to end up tied for 60th at 1-under 285.
