Still Snowed in at Tucson

With snow still covering the ground at the Dove Mountain course Thursday morning, the suspended opening round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship is still in abeyance. The tournament began Wednesday but was halted when snow flurries coated the greens and high winds drove the players off the course.

PGA Tour officials now hope to resume the incomplete first round in the $8.75 million event - which features the world's top-64 players - at 3:00 p.m. But all that depends on whether the snow melts.

Two more inches of snow fell overnight, but temperatures are expected to reach the low-50s Thursday afternoon, warm enough to melt the snow.

None of the matches were completed before play was canceled, and the top seeds - Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Louis Oosthuizen and Donald - had yet to tee off.

The remaining days of the tournament - which concludes with a 36-hole championship final match on Sunday - are expected to have frosty mornings, which could cause further delays in the schedule.

A similar snow situation arose in 2011 during the 36-hole championship match between eventual winner Luke Donald and Martin Kaymer. But that year the snow was relatively light.
