Streelman Fires 64 to Take Travelers Championship


setting seven straight birdies to come from behind and win the Travelers Championship. The $6.2 million PGA Tour event took place at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.

The birdie heroics by Streelman gave the 35-year-old Illinois native a 6-under 64 and a 72-hole total of 15-under 265, one stroke ahead of Spain's Sergio Garcia and South Korea's K.J. Choi, who each shot 67s.

The victory, worth $1.116 million and 500 FedEx Cup points, is the second of Streelman's career.

Streelman, who missed the cut in his previous four starts, went 7-under par on Nos. 12-18, breaking the previous Tour mark of six closing birdies set by Mike Soushak in the 1956 St. Paul Open.

Streelman told reporters later that he had nothing to lose on Sunday. "I didn't have too many expectations coming here," he said, adding that his thoughts have been away from the course and spending more time with wife Courtney and their six-month-old daughter Sophie.

"I was thinking about her (Sophie) on those last couple of putts. I was thinking, 'You know what? If these go in, great. If not, great. She's going to love me either way and we have a nice family vacation coming up either way,' " Streelman noted.

Ending up in fourth at 14-under 266 was Aussie Aaron Baddeley (69), while sharing fifth at 12-under were Brendan Steele (66) and 54-hole leader Ryan Moore.

The 31-year-old Moore, a native of Tacoma, Wash., got off to a poor start with three bogeys on the front nine to make the turn in 3-over 38. The three-time Tour winner wasn't able to come back despite birdies on two of his final three holes.

Harris English (67), Jeff Maggert (67), Chad Campbell (68) and Carl Pettersson (68) tied for seventh at 11-under 269.

Miguel Angel Carballo carded Sunday's low round, a 7-under 63 that included three eagles. The 35-year-old Argentine became just the second player to make three eagles in a PGA Tour round this season, finishing at 9-under in a tie for 18th at 9-under 271.

Defending champion Ken Duke carded a 71 and 68 over the weekend to end up T-46 at 276 on the par-70 course.
