Tiger Moves to No. 2 in Newest Rankings


Thanks for finishing tied for third in last week's Open Championship, Tiger Woods vaulted past Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood into the second spot in the latest World Golf Ranking, which were released Monday.

Luke Donald, who ended up sharing fifth at Royal Lytham & St. Annes in England, retained the No. 1 position.

McIlroy (tied for 60th at the Open at 8-over 288) and Westwood (T-45 at 6 286) shifted from second and third to third and fourth, respectively.

Donald has more than a full point lead over Woods, who's logged three victories on the PGA Tour this year. Donald has one victory each on the PGA and European tours in 2012.

Webb Simpson (who skipped the Open to be with his family) is No. 5 in the newest rankings, while Open runner-up Adam Scott is sixth. Rounding out the top 10 are Bubba Watson, Jason Dufner, Matt Kuchar and Justin Rose.

With the second Open victory and fourth major title of his Hall of Fame career, Ernie Els moved into 15th place.
