USGA Selects Site for 2014 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur


The United States Golf Association (USGA) has announced Harbour Trees Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind., as the host site for the 2014 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship. The dates of the championship are September 6-11.

"The USGA is very proud to bring the 2014 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur to Harbour Trees, marking the first time that this championship will be conducted in Indiana," said Thomas J. O'Toole Jr., USGA vice president and Championship Committee chairman. "This outstanding course, coupled with the customary Indiana hospitality, will certainly make for a memorable championship for the competitors."

This will be the first USGA championship conducted at Harbour Trees. Located along the shores of Morse Lake in the northern suburbs of Indianapolis, Harbour Trees was designed by noted architect Pete Dye and opened for play in 1973.

"Harbour Trees is delighted to have been chosen to host the 2014 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship and to work with the United States Golf Association," said Steve Baker, co-chairman of the Harbour Trees championship committee. "The opportunity to promote women's amateur golf and welcome the best female players in the country to our facility is a tremendous honor."

Harbour Trees served as the host site of the LPGA Tour's Mayflower Classic from 1977-1980, with Judy Rankin, Jane Blalock, Hollis Stacy and Amy Alcott, respectively, emerging as winners.

The club has hosted four Indiana State Opens, most recently in 2006. It also hosted the 2005 Indiana Match Play Championship, the 1994 Indiana Women's Amateur and the 1987-89 Indiana Senior Amateur championships.

The U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur was first conducted in 1987. The championship is open to female amateurs age 25 and older who have a USGA Handicap Index® not exceeding 9.4. The 2013 championship will be conducted at Biltmore Forest Country Club in Asheville, N.C., October 5-10.
