Van Pelt Nails Down Second PGA Tour Win


Bo Van Pelt took home the second victory of his career in style, firing a 7-under 64 in the final round to win the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic by six strokes. Van Pelt, whose previous Tour win came in the 2009 U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee, finished at 23-under 261 at The Mines Resort & Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The 36-year-old Indianan posted two birdies on the front nine and five more on the back to get past fellow Hoosier Jeff Overton, who closed with a 69. In solo third at 268 was Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson (68). Tied for fourth at 269 were Camilo Villegas (66), Mark Wilson (69) and Cameron Tringale, who matched Van Pelt for Sunday's low score.

"I've watched other guys coming down 18 with a big lead and I thought, 'That would be fun some day if I could do that.' And it was," said Van Pelt, who earned $1.3 million. "I feel like the luckiest guy in the world. I get to do what I love to do for a living.

"I've had a couple of chances to win this year, but didn't come out on top," added Van Pelt, who was in position to win in July at the Canadian Open at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club in Vancouver, but closed with a disappointing 74. "Canada was a tough pill to swallow. I just wanted to learn from that and do a better job when I had the lead. I take a lot of satisfaction in how I played today.

"My swing felt good right at the first warm-up and I kind of continued that all week and had confidence with what I wanted to do with my golf swing," Van Pelt said.

Playing partner Overton, who started the day a stroke behind 54-hole leader Van Pelt, with impressed with the champion's performance. "That was one of the best rounds of golf I've seen," he said.

"I didn't play a great round. I played a solid round. I kind of had a couple of hiccups. He birdied some holes that I bogeyed and those were huge momentum shifters."
