Webb Secures 39th LPGA Win
Karrie Webb is already a member of the LPGA's Hall of Fame. The 38-year-old Aussie further secured her place in history by closing with a fine 3-under 68 to win the ShopRite LPGA Classic on a windy Bay Course at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway, N.J.
Webb had two birdies - the last one coming on the 18th hole to nail down the title, an eagle and a bogey with the rest pars to finish at 4-under 209 on the par-71 course to edge China's Shanshan Feng by two strokes.
Feng, who began the final round with a three-stroke edge over South Korean Haeji Kang and Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn, closed with a 75.
The victory for Webb was the 39th of her career and her first since the 2011 R.R. Donnelly LPGA Founders Cup.
"It never gets old. It never gets any easier, either," said Webb, who earned $225,000 Sunday. "Today was extremely tough, and I'm just glad that I pulled it out. I think coming down I knew I needed to make one birdie, I thought, because I didn't think I could just par in and feel comfortable, so great birdie on the last."
Alone in third at 1-under 212 was Hee Young Park (71), while fellow South Korean Jenny Shin (70) ended up in fifth another stroke back. South Koreans Jeong Jang (70) and I.K. Kim (72) shared sixth at 214 with American Gerina Piller (69) and Japan's Chie Arimura (74).
Michelle Wie shot a 74 to end up tied for ninth at 2-over 215 with three others. That T-9 placing represented Wie's first top-10 finish in her past 19 starts.
